Change Your Mindset and Change Your Life
Do you have any dreams or life goals that didn’t come true? Don’t be so down about it, because you are not alone. The fact is, more than 90% of people say that they couldn’t achieve the goals they set for themselves each year.
How could the number be so high? This must mean there’s something holding us back. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, all of us have the ability to achieve our goals and dreams and the key is mindset. Change your mindset, and change your life. Here’s how to do it.
Accept That Somethings Need to Change
When we fail to reach our goals and dreams and it happens regularly, we will start to wonder what was wrong and what needs to change. Mostly we will look outside for the reason, while most of the time the reason is within ourselves.
The first step in changing your mindset is to accept that you need to change it. Don’t get panicked and rush to change your skill set by going to schools, seminars, or workshops. Skillsets are important, but you need to work on your mindset first.
Identify What Is Holding You Back
Mindsets are the result of knowledge, emotional milestones, and prior experiences. Meanwhile, counter-mindsets are the mindsets that aren’t producing the result you want. Some of the most usual counter-mindsets are limiting beliefs, self-doubt, and any other negative thoughts that will hold you back.
Each day, around 65.000 thoughts flow in our minds and unfortunately, most of these thoughts are negative. This phenomenon is called the ANTs or Automatic Negative Thoughts and it happens so often that most of us couldn't even realize it.
The first step you need to take to handle this is determining the ANTs every time they pop up in your head and take notice how often it happens. After that, you can narrow them down to a few key categories. This is important because we can’t fix what we don’t know.
Action
The next and most important part of changing your mindset and changing your life is to take action and flip the switch. Flip the switch is a popular term for changing your negative thoughts into positive ones after you identified your most common negative thoughts that regularly occur.
For example, if usually every time you see yourself in the mirror and all you can see is your flaws, after flipping the switch, every time you’re in front of the mirror, you can tell yourself that you look good, instead of focusing only on your flaws.
Start Small
Now you have control on your daily negative thoughts, the next step to do is to reach the goals and dreams you’ve set for yourself. If you want to finish big, start small first like doing 10 push-ups every day, meditate just for 1 minute every night before sleep, or finish a book every week.
Those are very simple goals, easily achievable but still count because those are positive steps. After you get comfortable achieving your minimum goals, try to achieve more and more. With this, you’re preparing yourself and before you know it, you’ll be ready to take on big challenges in life.
Don’t be Afraid to Fail
The last thing to change your mindset and change your life is to be comfortable with failure. If you’re not comfortable with failure, every time you fail, you’ll make excuses, fall down, and then stop trying altogether. Be comfortable with failure, identify what went wrong, work on it, and try again.
